I owe you a beer. Picking up the rear end this weekend in stockton I think. If.goingnfrom drum to disk it should be a pretty straight forward swap right? Old rear in out,new one in?

Re: WTB Rear End With Better Gears Than Mine

I havnt done the swap but id imagine you have to change some lines on the rear end portion. also, a disc/drum proportioning valve would be needed. did you try and talk him down a few dollars at least?

Re: WTB Rear End With Better Gears Than Mine

yeah but i went drum to drum. not to drum to disc.

then when i switched to 3.42s I changed the gears.

But another thing. on the borg warner rear end. although it is a better rear end, thier is little to no aftermarket parts available for it, so if it has a problem it is hard to get it repaired rather than the regular 10 bolt in our cars are easy to get parts for.

Re: WTB Rear End With Better Gears Than Mine

Yeah I was.just looking into that. Thinking I might just get gears and swap them into my rear diff. Or try to find a drum 3.4 rear end.

Re: WTB Rear End With Better Gears Than Mine

Re: WTB Rear End With Better Gears Than Mine

its probably easier to find a 10 bolt with posi and gears, but you may end up with a worn out posi and/or bad bearings and all that...its cheaper to get a whole used rear end. but its better to buy new gears, new differential unit, and install all new bearings

Re: WTB Rear End With Better Gears Than Mine

9 bolts are way stronger than 10 bolts but it is hard to find replacement parts for it but on the other hand they made a thread on here all about the repair and modify of 9 bolts but if you stick with drum find the aluminum drums if you dont already have them

you are right with the aluminum drums less mass and less unsprung weight on the suspension also helps with ride quality and performance handling
