WTB: Catalytic converter hanger.

Looking for the exhaust hanger that bolts to the cat for a 700r4. My car was once a junkyard car, so it suffered the same fate as all the other junkyard cars where they lazily chop the end of the bracket off instead of taking the time to unbolt it. Would prefer if the rubber is in good condition but the rubber can be replaced if needed.

Re: WTB: Catalytic converter hanger.

I'm guessing for a dual cat exhaust? That may be a tough but not impossible to find part.

Re: WTB: Catalytic converter hanger.

Sorry, should have specified. It's actually for a single cat exhaust, hopefully easier to find . Thanks for the link though, someone searching may find what they are looking for.

Re: WTB: Catalytic converter hanger.

I've got a few of these.... the LG4 automatic version.

The bracket used on the LG4 and TBI V8 automatics were a little different then the hanger used on the TPI cars. ( IIRC the V6 auto is the same as the LG4 style. ) They bolt to the tailshaft the same way, but the bracket that connects to the intermediate pipe has 2 mounting holes that are specific to the TPI or "standard" V8 exhaust.

Pretty sure that a LG4 or TBI version can be trimmed to fit a TPI pipe,...... I'll try and check into it this afternoon to be sure.

Re: WTB: Catalytic converter hanger.

Thanks. This is the cat that I have, not sure if it has the same mounting points as a stock TBI or TPI or whatnot:
Amazon.com: Magnaflow 93441 Direct Fit Catalytic Converter (Non CARB compliant): Automotive Amazon.com: Magnaflow 93441 Direct Fit Catalytic Converter (Non CARB compliant): Automotive

If you could get a measurement of the bracket's mounting holes center to center that would help make sure it will fit.

Re: WTB: Catalytic converter hanger.

The "fitment" onthat page shows the cat fits all Coupe, LT and Z28 cars with V8,..... but it doesn't show this cat fits IROC-Z ?? I've got to assume that means it's got the LG4 type hanger bracket holes.

I'll get a few measurements to see what works !

Re: WTB: Catalytic converter hanger.

It sounds like you have the tranny bracket already,.... but need the other bracket and the rubber ??

When I realized there was a difference I needed a TPI version and the LG4 style wouldn't work. I found a stock TPI bracket and painted a couple spare "templates" in case I needed them later; and I did. For the last TPI I re built I cut a piece of exhaust pipe, flattened it out, and cut it to match one of the templates ! )

OK; Take a look,.......

When measuring it,.... Find 4" measuring from the "square" edge to right. If the bottom hole ends before 4" it's a LG4 version. If the hole extends past 4" than it's a TPI version.

I've got 3 of the LG4 version and the spare LG4 hanger bracket in the first pic. One Cat hanger is used, one was blasted/painted black, and 1 was blasted/painted red. The used and black hangers' have a more flexible rubber hanger,... while the red one is much more rigid. ( there is a very small piece of the black hangers rubber that's missing,.... very minor ) They all appear to be stock ( original rivets ? ) but the red hangers' rubber is way stronger ?

Re: WTB: Catalytic converter hanger.

Looks like the flange on the cat uses two straight up and down bolts with 2 3/4" between them, which according to my highly scientific copy-paste of your measuring tape matches up with the TPI bracket. Got any of those?

Re: WTB: Catalytic converter hanger.

The amount of metal BETWEEN the 2 cat mounting holes on the LG4 version is 1 & 3/4".

The only TPI brackets I've got are the paper templates.

Re: WTB: Catalytic converter hanger.

Looks like it's the wrong end on there for what I need unfortunately. Thanks though! I guess I'll probably end up using John In RI's template to cut one out of some steel.
