Bolt/Nuts 91 F-body Metric or US?

He guys

What type of nuts / bolts are used on a F-body '91. Metric or US? Specially under the hood, i.e. The bolt an the throttle body?

I've been using Metric wrenches so far so good, this afternoon I rounded a bolt (gas spring trunk) and before things get any worse, i was wondering who can help me with my question?

Thanks

Don

Re: Bolt/Nuts 91 F-body Metric or US?

Body hardware is virtually 100% metric. I would say 100% but there might be ONE somewhere that isn't that I haven't run across yet.

Bolts that go into castings (block, heads, intake) are SAE in V8 cars. Most accessory hardware is still SAE. No clue what they are in the 6-cyl ones. Hardware for electric, fuel, emissions type stuff under the hood is a mix but mostly metric.

I think the V6 head bolts are SAE, and the mains, and the rods, but all the rest is sure to be metric. Rear axles are a mix, T-10s were SAE, T5s and autos are metric

Ah check! I have a V6 BTW. I want to replace my injectors therefor have to remove throttlebody and plenum. That's SAE?

Or in general, it's smart to have a SAE by my side just in case?

Thanks!

You should always have a good set of SAE and Metric sockets/wrenches/etc. I've found a mix of both on my Formy.

seems basicly most parts designed 1976 and later are metric threads and bodies from 1978 up are mostly metric-I had a '77 blazer and it was all SAE,but 1978 blazer had metric body bolts. One exception though is the crossfire injection system-all the larger bolts are SAE and that was designed in 1981

It was probably designed in the early '70s but not seriously considered, or at least approved, for production until around '81.

Re: Bolt/Nuts 91 F-body Metric or US?

Mostly metric wrench sizes.

I just pulled a 3.1 v6 mostly apart and I can't remember any SAE sizes on the outside of engine unless you count the pipe fitting. Mostly 7mm, 10mm, 11mm, 12mm, 13mm, 15mm

Re: Bolt/Nuts 91 F-body Metric or US?

Its always been a mess for me. I ALWAYS grab the metric equivalent of anything i take to the car to work with. EX. If I think it's a 9/16, I grab a 14 & 15 too. Likewise for 1/2 and a 12 & 13.
