WTB: Ford 9" Rear set up for 3rd Gen or other strong rear

Hey Guys, Andy Z-28 from Maryland here, fairly new to these boards.

I'm getting ready to put a new 383 in my 82 Z28 and will need something better than the current 7.5" rear. It's been handling a 350 fine for years but probably won't last long.

Looking for something used that will hold 450/475 HP at the drag strip. (Mason Dixon) It will have a 3000 converter and drag radials. Anyone have a Ford 9" or a Hawks or whatever at a reasonable price, set up for 3rd Gen.

It can be just the housing to start or complete.

I've seen what Quick Performance in IA has: $995 for Ford 9" housing and axles, $399 for the basic 9" center section with gears plus extra $150 or so for good yoke and pinion support. Plus about $300 for brake kit (drum or disc). I think Hawks prices are about the same for their stuff. All nice stuff but too expensive.

Hopefully someone has something used sitting in the garage when they upgraded to something even better.

I'm in the MD/VA/WV/PA/NJ area and can pick up.
I can also arrange and pay for truck freight if you can put the rear on a pallet.

Any help? Wouldn't you hate to see a nice 82 Z-28 with broken rear and axles sitting on the drag strip.

Thanks,
Andy

Anyone got a Ford 9" housing with the 3rd Gen brackets and torque arm hook ups? Can be with or without axles or center section.

There's got to one sitting in a garage somewhere.

Craigslist is your friend dude. A few weeks ago a guy in Allentown was selling a 12 bolt from his fourth gen for I think 1200. Was gonna grab it but that week i had to put a transmission in my freightliner. Just looked and it's gone. But search, search, search, every day any area you're willing to drive to and you'll eventually find what you're looking for.

Go to Quick Performance. They built mine for me and did a heck of a job. Excellent welds, center section built perfectly. Nothing but good things to say about them.

Re: WTB: Ford 9" Rear set up for 3rd Gen or other strong rear

Thanks to Firebird88 I now have a 9" Moser housing with GM ends and 31 spine axles.

Now looking for a 9" center section and spool or mini spool.

Also need a rear brake set up of some sort, can't use my stock metric brakes. I guess most 10 bolt brake plates fit the housing? The question is will 15 x 8 Weld Draglites fit over 98-02 disc brake plates and calipers?

Re: WTB: Ford 9" Rear set up for 3rd Gen or other strong rear

Andy-Z28 - I have a Moser 9" rear end and axles (4th gen) new and still in the box. I also have a used Ford center-section, posi with 3.50 gears. In addition, I also have a used set of 4th gen Camaro disc brakes that fit the rear end. I am thinking about getting rid of all this. I understand you are looking for a "deal" and I won't be giving these away. However, I do understand I will have to discount this stuff to move it. PM me if you want to talk about any of this stuff (either together or separate).

All the used rears I saw while I was searching were 4th gen width, I caved in and just bought new. Your best bet is to order new on black Friday. Moser has a sale, then add that to the savings of buying someones canceled 3rd member. For the housing, trick chassis has a price similar to QP but with a better torque arm mount like moser. They offered a black friday deal as well. Also from my research, you might want to upgrade to nodular iron case right off the bat.
