Ricks Camaros shows it is out of stock with a price close to $300. If a new one is available it would be expensive. List of GM vehicles that used the same switch at the bottom of post. Someone in the forum said it has a timer built in to the switch so it only operates for 9 seconds.
Check your existing CSS with a meter for proper operation. The switch is closed supplying ground. Below is from Factory Service Manual for V8 but V6 operates the same way.
when the engine is cold but opens around 100 degrees.
+12 Volts DC supplied only when cranking engine
List of vehicles with Cold Start Switch from a member who found a replacement in junkyard on a corvette I should be picking up the Cold Start Switch here shortly. In case anyone was having this issue as well here are the vehicles that the part is on. Same part for the V6, V8 (305 and 350) and the L4
No, they are completely different. I purchased one and have it installed right now and my car does not want to start. I wasted $100.00, but that was my fault, it clearly said it was only for a TPI car. However, I just found the right one out of a Corvette, based on the original part of 14084318. That was changed to 19244930 sometime ago. You will not find one under the changed part #.
Thanks, for the reply, much appreciated.
Wanted: For a 1986 Chevy Camaro 2.8L V6 MPI engine
Hi All! I am needing the sane part! I just found one from a Corvette! This is the original that came out of my 89 camaro 2.8 v6. Im also needing the smaller radiator fan switch. Any leads where i can find!
I bought one for a TPI engine and it does not function the same as one from an MFI engine.
Don't ask me to explain why. All I know is it does not start the engine when ignition key is activated. It will crank and crank, then fire, but will not stay running. Then The 2nd or third time you activate the ignition it will start and stay running, if you hit the gas pedal and pump it 2-3 time, but now you created and over-fueling
situation that will cause carbon to build-up on your spark plugs and sooner than later you will end up replacing your spark plugs.
The Cold Start Injector Switch functions as an on/off mechanism to activate the Cold start Injector, enriching the air-fuel mixture during cold start- ups.
The Cold Start Temperature Switch incorporates both temperature & time controls, which ensures that the cold start injector switch operates only when the engine is sufficiently cold and for a limited duration to prevent over-fueling the engine. These additional layers of control are critical for optimal engine performance.
Both switches have the same part number, but they do not function the same. So, if you need one or the other, make sure you ask if it was removed from the front or the rear of the intake manifold. The Cold Start Temperature Switch is located in the front and the Cold Start Injector Switch is located to the rear.
I finally found The Cold Start Switch, yesterday on e-bay, but I had to pay $145.00 to get it. It is a hard part to locate and if you need one and it is the correct one you need, you better buy it. Don' let the seller tell you that they function the same, not true.
