Suggestions for CA swap
Suggestions for CA swap
Right now I have a 305 TPI auto that I want to replace with either a 350 or 383. I have grown tired of trying to make the 305 fast. I know a 350 would be easier to make emissions legal, right? What would be a good crate engine to buy I was thinking of doing the ZZ4? Is there a 383 crate motor? I will most likely use ltr setup ported as much as possible until I can go to an aftermarket setup. How much cheaper would it be for me to build the engine compared to buying a crate engine? What could I keep from my engine? One last thing is I might put on a supercharger or nitrous on at a later date. Please give me any opinions or ideas you guys have.

383 LT1 would be cool.
my friend parts out and rebuilds 4thgens in San Diego. He could get you a low mile LS1 or LT1, with tranny. ISERCASTiK@aol.com

A 383 LT1 would be awesome! But the price tag would probably be pretty awesome as well… And how would the car hold up to all them extra ponies?
You would most likely have to upgrade a ton of stuff the keep your frame from bending out of shape and your tranny from giving out.
Unless you desperately want the extra ponies and torque from the LT1, I think the ZZ4 conversion kit would be the easiest and cheapest way to go. Last time I checked it was about $4,500 and you get EVERYTHING for the swap. ZZ4 (duh!), new dual exhaust, stuff to strengthen the tranny, suspension upgrades, in-tank fuel pump, dual air in-take, and most importantly the stickers you need to get the smog people of your back… This is only legal for vin G or H f-bodies, and only for autos.

An LT1 would be pretty nice though. :lala:

I agree that doing a 383 LT1 swap would be a good idea but how much would that cost compared to getting a L98 and making that a 383? Then I would be able to keep the TPI making the wiring and computer non-issue. I think a L98 would be better because I can keep alot of the stuff I have. How much could I get a L98 shortblock for? What would be some good things to upgrade?
