Crate Motors
Crate Motors
hey guys, I am really thinking of getting an entire new engine for my 1988 Iroc Camaro. I have a 110k mile 305TBI that just doesnt cut it. I want to be able to hang with the big boys. I also need something very reliable for I will be Driving about 15 miles a day to and from School. Wha wa as for engines should I go? Wat a *** Crate motor for a cheap price. There is about a 4K budget with this project. I want to keep my 700R4 tran too. Please, any info would be geatly apreciated.

I would get the chevy 383 HT crate motor if i were you, around $3300. It is a really nice motor with tons of torque.

I bought the 300 HP TPI 350 crate motor from www.goautocenter.com.
It was $1855 plus shipping.
It's a 93 Caprice 350 short block, with TPI heads and Crane Compucam.Ordered it with the TBI cam.
All new gm with warrantee.
It replaced the 215,000 mile 305 in my 92 RS
Passes smog in CA and pulls hard to 5500.

I agree with the 330 horse 350 it is really cheap has a warantee and you can have alot of fun with it. and if you have all this money to put into it you can do some stuff to it, and make it run even better without hurting your wallet.

No ET yet. Local drag strip is no more. Have to drive a couple of hours to get to a strip now, and can't afford a big towing bill if my T5 comes apart. Planning on Tremec TKO install in June.
Probably in July I should have some real numbers, though my car's really set up more for the twisties than straight-line hook-up.
I was gonna do the Ram Jet also, after seeing one in a thirdgen on the Hot Rod cover, but since I'm in California I need to pass smog and my current setup passes (with stock air cleaner on).
I do have real dyno numbers, however, as a friend of mine has access to one. (not a chassis dyno)
317 HP at 4500 and 398 Ft/Lbs at 2500,flywheel.
That's with 3" cat, single 40 Series Flowmaster and AIR pump,
(no power steering pump or alternator) and the computer and chip I'm using in the car.
I'll post G-Tech numbers when I get one.
