Might be getting a V8..I have some Questions.

My buddy at church just got a 1971 Buick LeSabre to jump around in because he was rearended in his Saturn. His dad found him this car so he can have some wheels until he gets a new car.

I just spoke to him for a few minutes and he said that the car has a monster V8. He didn't know what the cubic inches were. I asked him what he was going to do with the car once he gets a new one because I would like to have the engine to put into my 84 S/E V6 car.

My questions:

-What is the V8 in the 71 Buicks? Will they fit into thirdgens?
-The car only has 107 miles on it. Yep an old lady had it and very rarely drove it. Im thinking a 107 mile motor for my thirdgen would be great!!! Is there any thing I should look for or replace since the motor sat for 30 years. Is it worth buying from my friend?

I don't know the what kind of shape the car is in or what the motor is but if any one knows any info on the Buick motors. Let me know!

I will try and update you all on this when I get more info.

best thing to do is get the casting numbers off the block, and then do a internet search, find a site that you can run threw the numbers and find out, you can also use the vin nuber for that

I'm not sure what motor it is but. You will have alot of headaches trying to get parts to work in a 3rd gen. Go with a 350 small block if you want to do a swap.

You're buddy's '71 LeSabre will have either a 350 or a 455(not sure if Buick still built their 400 in '71),The 455 will be wider than the 350.If it's a 350 4 barrel it will make real good power,I had one in a '73 Regal back in the late 70's and it was a mover for a big car. Tip of the day,"a 455 Buick weighs almost exactly the same as a small block Chevy"...believe it or not.If they can fit Pontiac engines in third gen's a Buick will fit.A Buick is the only GM V8(other than a Cadillac) that has the distributor in the front....usually a "plus" in a tight swap. You'll have to probably weld up some mounts but anything can be swapped in if you have enough time, money, ambition and persistence.I once helped a guy put a '67 430 Buick into a '72 MonteCarlo.
