new guy needs help

hi. i have been reading this board for a while. and i am very impressed with the amount of knowledge that people openly share. I was wondering if i might be able to get a few good answers to my questions from a couple of you. RIght now i have a 350 that went exon valdeese on me, and i think its from the head or timing cover. it is backed by the stock t-5, and that is also on its way out the door. I am looking to get rid of these two problems at once. I plan on getting a t56 as soon as i find one with all the extras on it, and figure spending about $1000 or so on it. (including crossmember) The 350 has been leaking since the day i got it, and im just going to take it out because its old and the heads are warped i beleive. now on to my question. I have been reading and doing searches on 383s in our cars, and beleive that it is the best option. i have about $3000 to spend that was going to go towards a 4 wheeler, but i broke my back. so is it possible to get a nice 383 built for around 200 dollars?. i can reuse my intake, carb, and ignition... (edelbrock performer, holley 650/ 6210-3 and a regular hei distributer.) and just upgrade later. i am looking for the best possible foundation to start with (longblock) because i cant reuse heads. also, if anyone has any suggestions on cams, heads, pistions ect... i am looking to make this a nice mix between a road car and a drag car, so im not looking to make 600hp. im sorry this was so long, but i appreciate your help. thanks alot

you're best bet would be to buy new heads and a 400 crank then while you have the motor apart you might as well replace the rings and gaskets you definatly won't make 600 horse but you might get 300-350.
