howmany C.I.

how many cubic inches would i get if i put a 400 crank in a 350 and bored .60 over? also thats the most i can bore it out without having to fill the water jackets right?

I beleive that equates to 385 CI.And yes,normally a .060" overbore is max on a small block without magnafluxing to check for cracks or filling the block.

I wouldn't punch the 400 .060" unless you really needed too. At the .060" level things start getting pretty thin.


[EDIT] ummmmm make that a 350....but I would still not go all the way to .060" over unless there was no other choice.

He's punching out the 350 block, not a 400 block.

The extra horses a 388 will produce vs. a 383 is scatter from day-to-day. When the day comes when it needs to be freshened up, you'll really wish you had that .030" back.

Moral of the story: Don't bore it out any more than it needs to clean up. Typically, that's a .030" overbore the first time, although most blocks would probably clean up with .020". Most stroker kits come with .030" over pistons, however. Larger available, .020" over may be difficult to find.
