roller cam in early block?

I have a 91 bird, specs in sig. i also aquired a 305 h.o. from an 84 elcamino. since i cant go for a while without my car (having block cleaned, bored, etc..), i am gonna use the elky block as my foundation for the 335 stroker I am gonna get, but want to be able to use all my late model stuff on that block. the question is -can I put my roller lifters, and cam in that 84 block? i know the timing chains are diff due to smaller cam front, and I know that my old lifters (roller) have a peice that connects the 2 so they dont rotate in the lifter bore, so can it be done easily? if not what parts would I need to do the switch-over? also i am dead set in my ways on using a 305, so please, no "get a 350 instead" quotes I love my 305s. thanx for any help guys.

I would go about getting a roller cam retrofit kit from a cam manufacturer like Comp Cams. They're way stronger than the stock setup and are easy to install.

On this topic, will a GM roller cam fit with the retro-fit lifters in a pre '87 block or does it require a special aftermarket roller cam as well? I also wonder if the gear drive I have in my 91 roller block will fit as well. Thanks for your help!

I looked through some more archives and found a recent post reguarding my issue. I hope/think it is accurate.

I'll try and verify this tonight if I can. Depends on if I can find my old non-roller cam. It'd be nice if I was wrong
