355 swap in 2 weeks
ok the time has come. I've got an 85 355 with 327 heads.
ill have all of friday, saturday and sunday to get it done.
i've never done a swap but i've helped other people do it.
so ill need:
jack stands
cherry picker
wrenches
valve cover gaskets
waterpump gaskets
new belts
power steering fluid
anti-freeze
oil
now i'm going to pull the tranny with the motor. and take the radiator out.
so
remove hood
1. take out radiator
2.disconnect starter wiring
3.disconnect accelerator and kickdown cables
4.disconnect speedometer cable and gear selector
5.disconnect tranny mount and motor mounts
6. disconnect headers from y-pipe
7.pull motor
8.switch alternator and accessories etc.
9.switch tranny
10.drop new motor and tranny in.
and re connect everything.
is it hard to stick the driveshaft into the tranny when lining it up?
Do i need to switch the oilpan?
do i need to screw with the torque converter?
is it hard to hook up the gear selector to the tranny?
anthing i'm missing....???

While you've got it all pulled apart anyway, it might not be a bad idea to replace all the hoses, check the underhood wiring, vacuum lines, and stuff like that. I don't know how new the 355 is, but you may want to go over it and torque all the bolts to the proper settings, and possible replace some other gaskets (manifolds come to mind). This is, of course, assuming you don't mind laying down some extra bills for the parts - it's just a lot easier while the motor is on a stand and the engine compartment is empty.
