Question about yanking a 305, putting in 350

Hey guys, right now I'm in the decision making process about what options I have for replacing my LO3. I'm looking at 2 things, either going with the L05 Caprice 350 and keeping the TBI, or swapping over to a carb'd 350 from GM.

Obviously I'm addressing the 2nd question here. I am wondering what work is involved in swapping to carb. Been told its easy as taking out the computer eqiup. and tuning the carb, then you're on your way. Seems to simple to me. I'm trying to practice KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) and wondering what would be involved in this swap. Hidden costs? Is it more cost effective than keeping TBI and tuning it? What is needed to do the swap.

Also, if any of you have reccomendations on what motor to use I would appreciate the advice. I'm not looking for a 1/4 mile at a time car here, just a solid, hard running one. Anything from a stock 250 hp GM 350 to the Vortec 330 hp version, what would you guys run? Keep in mind I want to keep this simple. Thanks a lot for any help you guys offer!

swapping over to a lo5 would be cake as well as going carb. If you want to go carb, see the tech article. If you go with an lo5 and tbi, you will need to get the 350 injectors and chip (no biggie) and a 350 knock sensor. As for hooking everything back up, its a no-brainer if you label everything before pulling it all apart. One thing about tbi is youll hafta burn a chip for anything other than stock like a stock vortec or a 330 hp one. As with the carb, thats alot more mod friendly than the tbi. Had a carb on the old camaro and never thaught much of it. Hard to use in the winter time.

Using differnet combos that arnet direct bolt ins is where it starts to get tricky.

I swaped from tbi to carb and went from a 305 to a 383 stroker bored .30 over.
There is a lot of mony invovled. As for the carb there is a lot of ****** riggin that needs to be done. Such as when you take the old fuel pump out you need to come up with a way to make up for the missing piece. You need to figure what to do with the kickdown. It sounds confusing. Any questions e-mail at joemo22@yahoo.com and i'll see if i can find the list of parts needed.

even though i kept my tbi on my older pre '86 block and dont know too much about carb, couldnt you have the fuel pump feed into the mechanical one or just use it by itself? I know some of the older models had that setup to prevent vapor lock.
