The LT1 fired up today.
Just though I'd say thanks to everyone who has helped me. I ran the car today with open headers, I love that sound.
It didn't start the first time, my fuel pump wasn't getting any power since the power wire going to it was just a dummy wire. After I wired that up, she started.
I'll try to post a pic I took with my cheap digital camera.

and finally one more. Yea it's still a bit messy, but the engine isn't dirty even if the pictures make it look so.

Nope, currently don't even have the dash in.
I need to get a speedo that will work the signal coming from my PCM.
Might have to drive by tach for a while.

4L60E for a tranny, unfortunately the tailshaft housing has no holes to mount my torque arm, trying to get a tailshaft housing from a fourth gen camaro.
That is the stock wiring harness from the Caprice, spliced together with the stock wiring.

What engine was originally in your Camaro? I'm currently considering swapping a LT1 and 4L60E into an '86 firebird (LG4). How bad was splicing the wiring harnesses together, and if your Camaro was originally carb'd, was the wiring already there for the electric in-tank pump? Thanks.

85 Camaro z28 with a carbed 305 in it originally.
Splicing together the two harnesses was pretty easy, there are only a few wires which need to be connected from the original camaro harness. Tach, oil pressure, coolant temp, two power sources (red wires), a switched power source (pink wire) etc.
I still have to find a new electric speedometer though, mine originally had a mechanical one.
If your car is like mine you'll have to give some power to the fuel pump wire, the wire is going back to the fuel pump but no power is going to it. The wire comes from behind the back seats to the driver side kick pannel, it is kind of a weird green color I think (kind of colorblind) but it is a dummy wire, goes into a connector but doesn't come out the other side of the connector. I just connected to it with a fuel pump power line coming off my LT1 harness.
You'll be able to tell if you have it wired up properly, when you turn the key to run (but not start) you'll hear pumping coming from the gas tank.

congrats, and welcome to the club.
You might want to check into a modified tail shaft housing from jaguars that run. I believe you could get one with holes for the torque arm and a speedo drive welded in for your stock cable driven speedo. Just a thought, hope it helps.

What did you have to do for a throttle cable and cruise control (if you have it and it's functional)? Did you use the throttle cable from the 4th gen? Also, are you using the original fuel lines from your '85, or did you run new lines all the way back? Thanks again.

Not using cruise control, you can see in the picture that at that time the throttle cable isn't hooked up. My stock one doesn't reach, so currently i'm just "extending it" with some wire. We'll see how well that works.
Didn't use any of the camaro fuel lines, I used the fuel lines off of the 95 Caprice which are the quick connect lines. I had to get some special quick connect to barbed adapters for the connection at the fuel tank however.
