91rs 3.1 To 350

HOPE YOU ALL CAN HELP MY SON OUT HE IS SWAPIN A 3.1 FOR A 78 350 OUT OF A K5 BLAZER THAT HAS BEEN IN HIS 78 CAMARO HE IS A LITTLE STUBORN AND DOESN'T LISTEN TO ME MUCH YOU ALL WITH 17 YEAR OLDS MIGHT UNDERSTAND

HE HAS ALREADY DONE THE 305 TO 350 SWAP IN THE 78 BUT I TOLD HIM THIS ONE WOULDNT BE SO EASY. YOUR PAST POSTS HAVE CONVINCED HIM THAT THE STOCK 700R4 THAT HE WAS TOLD WOULD WORK WONT SO HIS IS OUT BUYING A NEW ONE OUT OF A 84 VAN RIGHT NOW

I HAVE READ SOME CONFLICTING STUFF ABOUT THE DRIVE SHAFT IT SHOULD WORK RIGHT ONLY IF HE USED THE 350 TRANS WOULD HE HAVE TO CHANGE IT ?

WILL THE HEADERS HE WAS GIVIN WHEN HE BOUGHT THE 78 350
WORK IN THE 91 THEY SAID THE WHERE FOR A CAMARO ?

GOOD INFO ON THE FUEL PUMP PROBABLE BEST TO GET A REGULATOR FOR THE IN TANK UNIT BUT WHAT DOES HE DO WITH THE MECHANICL CAN HE LEAVE IT ON OR TAKE IT OFF AND DO THEY MAKE A PLATE TO GO OVER IT?

WILL THE STOCK RADIATOR WITH A SWITCH TO TURN ON THE ELECTRIC FAN WORK?

ANYTHING ELSE YOU CAN THINK OF THAT MIGHT BE A PROBLEM ?

BY THE WAY HE IS A GOOD KID AND HAS PUT A SUMMIT CAM IN THE MOTOR ALREADY AND IT IS RUNNING REAL STRONG HOPEFULLY THE HEADERS CAN BE USED TO HELP IT OUT

THANKS

I assume you meant he "doesn't" listen to you much...

I have an '84 full size van, has 130k+ on it, we've used it to pull a 2-horse trailer for the last 6 years (50k+). No trouble to date.

Having said that, the TH700's were much better after 1988.

If the V6 car currently has a TH700 in it, the driveshaft will work with the TH700 out of the van.

No way. 3rd gen chassis is completely different from 2nd gen.

GOOD INFO ON THE FUEL PUMP PROBABLE BEST TO GET A REGULATOR FOR THE IN TANK UNIT BUT WHAT DOES HE DO WITH THE MECHANICL CAN HE LEAVE IT ON OR TAKE IT OFF AND DO THEY MAKE A PLATE TO GO OVER IT?
You can use the in-tank with a regulator and put a block-off plate on the engine; use the in-tank and a mechanical with a return line on the engine; or, the in-tank with a regulator w/return line in front of a mechanical on the engine w/o return line.

WILL THE STOCK RADIATOR WITH A SWITCH TO TURN ON THE ELECTRIC FAN WORK?
You'd be well advised to get V8 parts there - radiator, fan, automatic fan switch (goes in the passenger side head).

ANYTHING ELSE YOU CAN THINK OF THAT MIGHT BE A PROBLEM ?
There are a lot of details, and a bunch of stuff that will be different (like engine mounts) and a nice little challenge. Look over V6 to V8 posts on this forum for more info.

Well, you already know about the headers. Sounds like you're a good dad, too.

Thanks for the help Five7kid.

Since the headers won't work what would you recommend as an inexpensive solution for replacement ones? I'll have to buy them for him because he's drivin my 68 gto convertible in the interim.Actualy I bought it for an incentive for him to get a scholarship to college then its his.But in the mean time i'm having fun with it!

Transmission: 700R4/4L60 same trans different name
since it doesnt seem like your trying to be emissions compliant, just get some used headers at a swap meet

i paid $30 for mine

If you're going new, the non-emissions Hedman shorties for $99 seem like a good bet. If you want, they have a $99 y-pipe to go with them.

After that, things start getting more expensive. Hooker non-emissions shorties, $141, but no y-pipe available for them. Nice headers, but everything after the collector will have to be custom (until you get it to the cat location, anyway). Long tubes are around for about $150, again custom exhaust after them, and ground clearance will probably become a problem.

The 30 dollar ones sound great but iI dont have the time .

How about flowtech at summit racing I know the will be here by the weekend they are only 85 with all the hardware ?
He planned on new dual exhaust anyways. No emissions here to worry about. I'm bringing home our cherry picker from work on friday. Hope he can have it done by sunday so I can take it back monday.

Are flowtech any good?
