Swaping engines

I'm looking at what is suppossed to be a 1987 Firebird, with o engine, but we think it had a small v6. I have a 305 out of an 83 Malibu that I would like to put into this car. I plan to keep the engine carburated, and use as little of the original harness as possible, since I wont's be using all the sensors and stuff that the car originaly came with. What kind of problems would I be looking at to make this swap work? I have'nt seen the car yet, hoping to go see it on Friday, and hopefully then I can post more information. Just looking for some info, incase this project is'nt even worth getting started in the first place.

I'll part company with Ed here. If the car originally had a V6, there will be a bunch of stuff to change, starting at the motor mounts (and that part alone isn't any fun at all). You'll need so many parts that aren't with the car or on your engine, and some that aren't available at parts stores (like the engine side of the engine mounts), that it would be best to get a factory V8 donor car - even if you don't use the engine from that car. You've got transmission, radiator, accessory mounting all to deal with as well.

Can it be done? Sure. My brother picked up a similar '82 about 10 years ago, took him almost 3 years before he ever drove it (he had a 305 and TH350 tranny from a Regal). He never did get it right, gave it to his son who played with it for another year before he sold it to someone else.

You'd be doing yourself a favor by looking for a factory V8 car to put your engine in. Really. Even if you have to pay twice as much for it (I hope you weren't planning on paying more than $100 for this '87).

Thanks for the extra info, I did'nt think of all that other stuff. As for the price, the car is currently sitting in a wrecking yard ( a friend of mine) and it's gonna be a freebie. Car is supposed to be in good shape, it's just that the motor is out of it.
