350 H.o.
I have just bought my first car, a 87 Camaro with a 305 computer feedback carb and a 5 speed trans. I was thinking of buying a GM Performance parts H.O. 350 Camaro Conversion kit for my Camaro. But the problem is that the kit says that its emission legal with a auto trans but says nothing about a 5 speed. I live in california and want to know if I can swap the engine and still pass the smog test. Also would there be any problems with the computer that comes with the kit and the 5 speed trans. Has any one out there done this swap a little advice would help.
Thanks Guys

But, by golly, it sure does have an effect.
The "certified" part won't apply to you. If the Smog ***** really dig into it, they'll recognize that "the entire HO 350 conversion package" was not "installed exactly as described in the manual".
You should pass sniffer no problem, but the stickers that come with the kit will rat on you.

I'm using a 350 300HP crate motor from goautocenter.com in my 92 RS. I don't recommend telling them you've swapped motors, as some will want all the documentation on whether your swap is legal. If you can make it look legal, and it passes at the tailpipe, they'll never know the difference. My car came with a 305 TBI 5 Speed, and I kept it TBI, though the cam is a Crane Compucam 2030, it's a 350, with bigger injectors, a custom chip and Edelbrock TBI intake, and SLP Headers with Air Injection, it passes smog at the tailpipe for the stock 305! For the visual, all I have to do is put the stock air cleaner on it.
They key is not to tell them you've installed a bigger motor.
If the motor's new and the cam is mild, you should be able to pass at the pipe.
The computer feedback carb should be able to support the additional power of a bigger motor (within reason), so just ask them to look at it before you get it smogged and if it'll pass their visual inspection, let them pre-test it at the tailpipe.
If they say it won't pass visual, go somewhere else.
