4 bolt 350 $300?
There is a:
"350 Chevy 4 bolt to be
rebuilt, crank turned
10/10, $300 or best offer"
I am going to call if you guys say it sounds like a deal. I will probably call just to get in on it. 350s go like hot-cakes around here. Tons'o' racing guys. Mainly yanked for the cirlce tracks and stuff.
Or there is a 1968 dissassembled 327 for $200.
The 327 isn't too far from me. But the 350 could be another story. Should I go with the 327? Or try for the 350? Or both and hope I get one or the other?

$300 for a block that needs to be cut is ridiculous. You can get a new block for close to that price. The 327 on the other had would be ok unless it's already been bored, or a piston scuffed. I'd offer $100 for the 350.

Well, I know the guy selling the 327. So I would most likely be able to get the 327.
Well, if it needs to be rebuilt, then it probably needs to be at least rehoned if not overbored, and that ain't free. Plus since the crank has been ground you're going to have to machine parts to accomodate that. In the least you'd have to buy spacers, and I don't like that at all.
Almost any type of machining involves cutters, so I say cut. Any salvage yard will have a V8 chevy in it for dirt cheap. If you're going to rebuild it anyway it doesn't matter what shape it's in. A 4 bolt, unless it's a truck or taxi cab tall deck block, is just heavier. A good splayed main 2 bolt block works just as good without all the weight.

Well, I think I'm going to pass on the 350. Maybe see what is up with the 327 since I can get it a lot cheaper and I'm not looking to make a huge amount of power.
Anyway, around here, there are few salvage yards and any that are around lose their engines fast. I was surprised to see a police cruiser caprise sitting in a salvage yard. Plus, it even had the motor in it. I probably should have looked into it. Do those have 350s? If they do, I am going to be mad since it was there and I didn't even think of getting it.
I'm still waiting for the guy to call back about the 327 though.
