Just bought a 327
I just got a 327 to replace my 305 as soon as I get the performace parts for it. It's a 1968 327 with the larger crank journals in it. I don't know a lot about it yet, but will do a little research as soon as I get the block and heads cleaned up a little.
I would like to know what cam I should run in this. I have been told that a hydraulic flat tappet cam from Comp Cam's Extreme Energy cam. I would like to know what you guys think about this. And what specs I should get the cam with.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

By 1968, 327's were low-performance, slight upgrade V8's typically with 2bbls, mostly in large sedans and trucks. The heads were better anchors than performance parts. Your best bet would be to get something better to put on top of that block.

That's right, ditch the heads, they are crap if they're the original... and they probably don't have accessory bolt holes anyway, so you won't be able to have little details like an alternator, PS, A/C.
you could stick your 305's crank in it, i.e. stroke it, and build it as a 350 instead. cubes are your friend.

I don't think the 305 crank would work in it anyway. I think it is a large journal crank that was availible in 68. I'm not sure. Either that, or it was when they upgraded to a large journal. I'm not sure. I am going to try to find the number on the block. It's so covered in goo that it might be a while.
Also, the add says it comes with a 4 barrel intake. I didn't get the intake when I picked up the motor, so I am going back to get it later this week. Not sure if it's the stock intake, but if it is, oh well. I have to get a Vortec intake anyway.

the 305 crank is the same journal diameter as the large journal 327. it will work in that block and will raise the stroke from 3.25" to 3.48", and turn it into a 350. you'll have to have it balanced; but of course you were going to do that anyway.
