Want Opinions On What To Do When Lo3 Dies
right now i have a lo3 with 150k on the clock. i'm expecting it to die soon and i was loooking for opinions on what to do after that.
heres my situation... i'd like to spend 2500-3000 TOTAL and want somewhere around 300-400 hp
what engine does everybody suggest? 350, 383, 400?
keeping the 305 is out of the question.
what form of injection should i do? should i keep the TBI?
or should i just take the plunge and go carb?
i don't think that i'm ready to try to attempt putting on TPI.
What all would be involved with each one. and how complicated will it be.
i also plan on doing t-56 swap after engine so what i get has to be compatable.
(hmmm, how hard would it be to pull a engine and trans out of a 4th gen and throw it into mine? what all problems would i run into with the mounting and the FI?)
P.S. i know this has probably been posted millions of times. but this is my individual situation and i was hoping for some personal feedback.

I've always liked the 383 personally. And Im at a crossroad right now. My motor developed a knock so I am starting to look in to what I want to do with mine. its an auto which I hate. so the tras will have to be done as well if im gonna go through all that trouble swappin anyway. right?? as for the 4th gen Idea no clue. This is my first camaro. Its an 87 z28 305 with all the options. So I love it. My other cars were all old mustangs. 69 droptop 70 coupe that I put a 460
in and a 72 fastbak with a 351 C. I luv the facrt that the camaro can actually handle unlike the mustangs.

I put the 300HP 350 crate motor from www.goautocenter.com in my 92 RS (replacing the 170HP 305). It was $1855 with the optional TBI cam (Crane Compucam 2030 hydraulic roller).
My TBI RS now smokes Cobras! Still have a T5 trans in it, but it's starting to get noisier, so it's only a matter of time....I'll have to upgrade to a beefier trans soon.
So far I have 13,000 miles on this motor (since December) and it runs great. I think it's priced at $1955 now.
Shipping (to CA, from TX) was another $250 or so, but if you're in TX that'll be considerably less.

Well, I upgraded a bunch of things at the same time, but bare minimum, the swap requires the 350 truck injectors, knock sensor and ESC module and a custom chip.An adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator helps with fine-tuning as well.
Injectors: AC/Delco #17112493 (2 Req)
Knock Sensor: AC/Delco # 10456288
ESC Module: AC/Delco # 16128261
You'll also want a good exhaust system.
My custom chip is from Ed Wright at Fastchip.com (the next best thing to burning your own). His custom chips are $350.
I'm using an Edelbrock Performer TBI intake, Turbo City Ported Throttle Body and Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator, Moroso 14x3" Open Element Flat Bottom Air Cleaner,SLP 1-5/8" Headers and Y-Pipe, 3" Catco Cat and a 3" Flowmaster American Thunder Cat-Back System.

I put a SBC back in my car when I did the swap. If I had it to do over again, I'd do the BBC swap. I haven't priced it, but to put a mild BBC in the car should be in your budget. The coolness factor is through the roof, and nothing makes reliable streetable HP like a BBC. Just my .02
