2.8 mpfi to 305 tpi
i have a irocz and some guy pulled out in front of me and i nailed him pretty good and i had bought a 88 camaro with a 2.8 mpfi off a friend. i got this car before i wrecked mine and only paid 200. the body is in great shape as far for motor its a 6 what more is there to say. i helped swap a 350 into a 84 camaro with a carbed 2.8 and the ecm unplugged with like 2 wires form the rest of the harness. what i want to know is do the 88 2.8 and my 87 iroc with a 305 tpi unplug like this two and if they both do can i just unplug the ecm and switch them.so i dont need to do any cutting on the tpi harness im switching the whole drivetran. what is the main stuff i am going to have probs with thanks guy i hope i can get some pics of the project and put on the board i never got any of the old car. i will make sure i get some of the new car thanks again

Basically, everything unbolts/unplugs and can be swapped from one car to the other. Remember, the factory doesn't like to do things like run individual wires or solder things on the assembly line. It's an amazing sight to see the entire engine harness, from kick panel to sensors to engine sitting in a heap with labels saying what everything is and where it goes, and a completely clean engine compartment. Oh, guess I should mention that you put those labels on while you were disconnecting things.
The nastiest thing about the swap is those pesky front engine mounts. You need to move them from the back of the crossmember to the front. Getting to the nuts on the inside of the crossmember is a job for IMF. The easiest way to get to them is to drop the a-arms, which isn't a bad idea since you want to replace the front springs anyway, and then the mount nuts are real easy to get to. But, since you'll be doing this with the engine out, there isn't enough weight to compress the front springs to get the a-arms back up. So, some type of spring compressor is in order.
You will need to swap the engine harnesses and most anything that connects to or feeds the engine - transmission, radiator, AC (don't break open the system, swap the complete thing over while the engine is out - assuming the V8 system wasn't damaged), accessories, hoses, cables, etc. And tachometer. At least you have a complete donor car that is close to the year of the one you're putting back together - that's good news.
