Hey Tommy...I run the PJ in my Z.I run the Edelbrock two piece cover right now.I had to dimple it out slightly to get them to fit but no big deal.On my old motor I also ran a PJ with a cheap parts store chrome cover with no fitment problems at all. What is your dilema??
well the 400 im using has a factory cover on it and the 2 axles on the idler gears are preventing the cover from going on all the way.
I figured if I tighten the bolts to the cover all way that it will dimple the cover by it self. is there a cover that will fit PJ gears that i wouldn't have to ruin?

Did you grind the end of the "axles" on the gears to gain the clearance the instructions explain to set the gear drive up for? When I first installed my PJ in my current 355 on the stand my cover did not fit either..till I broke down and read the directions and once I followed them and grinded the "axles" down for the recommended clearance all fit together well.If you lost or do not have your directions let me know and I will dig mine out to give you the spec PJ recommends.Hope this helps ya.
Not all SBC timing covers are the same
they all look similar but newer (1979 and newer) fit tighter against the block. Some chrome aftermarket covers also fit tighter than others. The idler gears need some play, and when trial fitting them on a BBC we ground the block face slightly (with a die grinder) so that the the idlers fit closer to the block and the gear mesh was straight.
