engine suggestions welcome

Ok, I know I'v asked this before, but I have a little more details now. Where can I find a pair or Vortec heads with 4 center bolt holes that will attach to the older style intakes? If you don't remember, I asked earlier about the 70's style 350s. I can get one for free, minus the externals. Would Hooker headers be worth the $$$? Also, what cam should I go with? It will be my daily driver, but I want good power. The guy said a factory corvette 350 HORSE 350 CID cam would be good. Any suggestions? Thanks, any advice would be appreciated.

FWIW, you can drill the 4 holes. But that won't do what i think you think you wish it would.

"Vortec" is simply GM's marketing name for "raised intake ports". The intake ports aren't in the same place as they were on the older heads. So the bolt holes are the least of the issues involved in using them.

That "151" is a pitiful cam. I will not use it in anything I build. I've known entirely too many people who were sorely dosappointed in their motors, because they used it. You can look up its specs at any of the mfrs that make replica cams; Comp for example has it on their page.

They (Vortec heads) will bolt to any block, including 70s 350 blocks. But you need to get the right intake to go with them. Without that, they're a step backwards, and the "other" intake might not even cover up the ports in the heads, or vice-versa.

what induction are you planning on using? that seriously impacts cam choice. Although, it doesn't matter what it is, the "151" cam is the wrong one.

If I was in your shoes, I wouldn't try to fine Vortecs that are drilled for a conventional SBC manifold cause I've heard that the ports can be a bitch to match up. As far as the cam goes, if you do end up using Vortecs with stock springs, you'll be limited to about ~.470 lift, even though you'll hear slightly different numbers from different people. But you can run bigger springs with some machine work to the heads if you wanna run a bigger cam.

The guy I'm getting the engine from, said he would try to get a stock 4-bbl manifold. Because I am planning on sticking with TBI. I'm gonna go with the higher capacity Throttle Body from Holley. So, which heads would fit a 4-bbl manifold for 70's 350's? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
