Good Books, or How To sites?

Can anyone recommend an excellent book, or site that would show me how to "finish" building an engine after it's pretty much short blocked? I have the heads on, the intake on, and the oil pan on, but that's about it, so I am wondering what else (I know probably most, but I want to see if there is something I am forgetting) to get this thing running, and to get it on the road. A good book would be ideal, but I don't know one that would cover this in good detail.

I have an 83 Z28 that originally came with the Cross-Fire injection. I swapped the engine with a SB 400, and am now in the process of finishing the swap. I ripped out the computer, and I think all the TBI parts. I have also ripped out alot of other things, and basically want to start from scratch from here on out.

Or if there is a thread that describes this very well already, I would be very grateful if you could point me towards it.

Thanks for any suggestions, if my question isn't clear, or you want more info, let me know, I would be glad to provide whatever you will need.

Chad

You got the heads and intake on, torqued to spec and in the right sequence, without a reference? You got the oil pump and pickup set correctly and torqued somehow?

Most cheapo Chiltons books have general assembly instructions, torque specs, etc. The specialty books like Vizard's and whatnot focus on engine building but generally stop short of installation and accessories.

I also saw a "Build your first engine" magazine from Hot Rod at Barnes & Noble last month, good compilation of articles covering engine assembly and performance tips.

Do a search on the area in question...you will find pages and pages of info on just about any needed topic...and if by some chance you dont..post a specific question and rest assured it will be answered.

He he he, good point. This was ~4 years ago, and I have maybe changed my oil since then. What I mean is, I forgot it all. I can do the obvious basics still, spark plugs, cap, rotor, brakes. I even put my distributor in a few months ago with no instructions. But now I am having 'writers block' sorta speak.

Thanks for the idea, I will cruise over and check it out.
