Yes......I got this engine for free

:lala: FREE!!!!!!!!:lala:
ok heres the story
My brother is a tech for a marina in Boston and They get tons of people in and out of there that repower there boats. So anyway he calls me up and says "Hey I got an engine down here if you want to look at it"
Me-"How much"
Him-"Free, Just have to take the marine stuff of it"
Uh.huh, probaly some piece of S**T with 3 cracks and warped heads. But i went down there and see this STILL NEW GLOSSY BLACK engine sitting there. I give my bro a look and he says "What?" Me"Oh nothing...Ill come get it with the truck tommrrow" Found Out it came out of a new boat that some idiot owned and somehow water got into the engine and siezed #5 piston. Only 10 hours of use!! The valve covers don't have any sludge on em and the pistons look fine. Well checked the castings and its a VORTEC engine complete from intake to pan.:hail: :hail:
Well now its time to strip it and start HELL ON WHEELS 383 project.

Car: yy wife, crazy.
Engine: 350, Vortecs, 650DP
Transmission: TH-350
Axle/Gears: 8.5", 3.42
So I assume it's a 350?

One thing to keep in mind though is Volvo makes 350 marine engine by using SBC blocks. The one thing different is they spin backwards.

I don't know for sure if yours is this way, but you may want to find out. And I'm not sure what parts are interchangable because of that. Obviously the heads, block, and crank should be OK, but the cam, distributor, etc., (things in the valve train) will be different. A lot different.

But even so, GOOD DEAL!!! If you were smart, you'd make a habit of getting those engines and selling them. Usually rich people like that don't have the "time" to fool with it.

Yeah I know for sure its not reverse rotation, actually nowadays most engines arn't reverse rotation because the use a gearbox to change the direction when being fed to a prop. The casting numbers come up as a 2 bolt gm goodwrench crate engine and the heads are just regular vortecs, same ones you can buy through a dealer.
Yeah I know all that marine stuff is going back and I don't want the cam or anything, just the heads and block is really the only items i might use. I plan on going with a Speed-o-motive 383 mighty mouse kit.

Oh yeah I might see if they have any other enginesjust...laying around:lala:

Samething happened to me. I work at boat dealer and my dad is marine tech there. I got a 2000 vortec motor free heads and block. Block was junk the guy didn't winterize it 20 hours on the thing. But once i tore it down one head was cracked. So i've got pistons, crank, rods, and one good head sitting in my garage. I'm not sure if i even wanna use any of it though. Hope you have better luck. But if you find one that the block is crack in the right spot you can get a steal if it doesn't have alot of hours on the motor.

Actually I took the the engine down to just the bottom end now. One head is all saltwater rusted, valves too but the other side which didn't sieze is perfect, like still has the blue paint they useon the inside. Barely any carbon buildup. Now I need Santa:lala: to bring me a Speed-o-motive 383 kit. I have no idea if I should get my vortec heads redone or buy some world products or something. Whatcha think? New valves, springs, and a port job or buy something and use it straight out of the box?

I would just clean the heads up and use them if it only has 10hrs on the motor. If you are going to make this a high hp engine with big cam i think you might wanna swap the springs for some stonger ones as long as the head is off. BTW nice find i wish my free 350 would have turned out this savageable.
