I was lookingfor a good plan for a 305 build but not too much.
base 305 155 hp 245 torque
i want 200-250+ hp and 245- no more than 300 torque.
why cause my T5 will ripe apart too easy, gotta keep the torque low but i want more HP before i drop it in.
What could I easily bolt on for more Hp but keep the torque low or stock?

I wouldnt worry about a carb'd 305 making much more than 300 peak torque at best. If you're just looking for bolt ons, full exhaust from headers to back and an aftermarket intake manifold are definitely good starts. I suppose you would consider those bolt ons, I consider a set of heads bolt on in my books though....
I think you can tear up the T-5 with 250 ft/lbs just as easy as with 400 ft/lbs. Evan if you stay under it's rated capacity it don't mean that it is bullit proof. Usually torque increases with horsepower.

You make more horsepower by increasing torque and RPMs. Making more horsepower with the same torque means you are simply reving the engine higher. With a manual transmission, that means you are going to have to use steeper rear gears, and rev the engine higher at take-off. Meaning you'll be producing the required torque at a higher RPM, which will increase shock (which is what really kills a manual tranny, more-so than torque).
FWIW, here's the DD2000 numbers (flywheel) for my combo:
RPM Torque HP
2000 284 108
2500 299 142
3000 310 177
3500 331 221
4000 346 264
4500 355 304
5000 352 335
5500 338 354
6000 317 362
6500 289 357
The WC trannies are stronger than non-WC (not sure what you have). T56 is really the way to go, though.

85 T-5 is not a world class tranny.
As for the rating, I think you'll be fine until you hit around 350 ft-lbs, then you might be risking the tranny. Some are good and some are bad, but you should be fine to around that point, especially if you arent abusive to it all the time.

Since yours is the carbed 85 engine, I would just drop in the Scoggin Dickey 350 and you will be at the EXACT specs you want with a BRAND NEW motor that will last another 150k miles or more. With a nice 3yr/50k mile warranty

you can always add a cam, intake or whatever to this engine later.

Question:
IF you add somethign that makes more HP and not much torque.. Aren't you not going to get much from it because it's the torque that makes the acceleration not the HP??
That's what I thought.. Maybe I'm crazy...

Is this a V6 T5?
You might want to search on this and the Transmission forum. The input splines are different from V8 T5's, the gear ratios are different, and word is the V6 T5's aren't as strong as the V8 counterparts.

The T5 thing is is a load of crap. I've been racing a NON-WC T5 for a few years now, hasn't broken yet..
And if it ever does, I have spares in the shop.
As far as that intake goes, I run it on my Z28. Not a bad intake, its also a 305 - around 300hp..
