Ok so I hit the search button this time......

It looks like I am getting a 350 soon. Its a 4 bolt main and its a pre 87 block. Right now I own an 89 RS (TBI). I know that I'm going to need a set of older valve covers and a different intake. i was thinking that i'll buy a carb intake and a carb to tbi adapter. I'm planning on picking up a tbi for a 350 truck from the local junkyard. While I'm there I'm going to look for an 89 caprice chip. i heard that you can wrap the base of the 305 knock sensor w/ teflon and it will work on the 350. My main concerns are as follows, harmonic balancer whats the real difference between the 6 oz and the 8oz one (i read a bunch of posts on this and I just got confused), flexplate (do i really need the 168 tooth plate?), oil pan (I heard that the 305 1 peice rear main pan wont work on the 2 peice rear main block), and accessories, can i use all my accessories from my 305 on the 350? I have the serpentine setup right now and thats my biggest concern. I'm not concerned about the bars that support the ac compressor and alternator because those came out when I installed my headers. Can i use my old headers (flowtech no air tubes)? Once again yes i used the search button. Last time I posted with out using the search button everyone had a field day. If I have to buy a new oil pan how much should I expect to pay. i bought an oil pan for my 351W that is going into a mustang for $100 (almost new). One more thing will I have a problem bolting the torque converter up to the flexplate? It seems some people dont and some people do.

BTW big thanks to all those who flamed away last time because I wouldnt use the search button, when i read a bunch of other posts I realized that there were other things that I didnt even think about running into problems with.

you ought to be able to get an oil pan from a car show or swap meet for 20 dollars. the 1 and 2 piece rear main seal pans are differant. you want a flex palte or fly wheel to match your block, again the 1 and 2 piece seal flex plate/fly wheels are differant. bt i knock senser for your engine ,don't try to save a few dollars on an important part. it's inches not ounces. the larger one weighs more, natuarally. again run what came on the 350. all your accesory will bolt right up, just use your old brackets and you shouldn't have any problems. yeah you can use your old headers, should bolt right up. i've enver had a problem bolting a converter to the flex plate, make sure you have it seated al the way into the pump. yeah it sure was a lot of fun with your last thread, nothing personal, just having a little fun at your expense, it happens to everyone sooner or later.

My old shop teacher said I might run into a problem with the accessories. i'm glad you cleared that one up. I'm thinking of getting a compucams cam for my 350 (once i get it). I might just mate that up with some trickflow aluminum heads. i really want to go with the aluminum heads because the pistons are flat tops w/ the 4 valve reliefs. So i want to push the compression w/ aluminum heads. Just a thought. No hard feelings, I was being lazy after a long week. Btw I have a blow off class now and I should be able to do more homework on the swap before I jump in.

so do i need the 153 tooth flexplate or the 168 tooth flexplate (internally balanced respectfully)? It's a pre 86 block so I know it would be for the 2 peice rear main seal block.
