Hey everyone, today is a sad sad day For the past week or so I have been hearing a slight clanking, I was pretty sure it was my tranny......so I figured I would just bring it in to the mechanic on the weekend to take a look at it. It just so happened that this was not the case. Comming home today from school on Route 3.... The slight clanking grew louder and louder and eventually I started to feel the whole car starting to shake.......then all of a sudden BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM the car fellt like it lifted off the ground, and I skidded off into the break down lane. Anyways....it looks like I threw a rod broke a bearing, craked a cylinger head.....I mean everything. Oil was everywhere and smoke was pouring out of the engine compartment. So it looks like I am gonna have to put in a new motor. Just wondering if anyone knew some places where I could get a fresh rebuilt one for pretty cheap... and how hard it is to actually drop in the new motor. I am just looking for something with around 300hp. Thanks, all feedback is apperciated.

look in the yellow pages, there's usually a lot of rebuilders listed. if you broke the block, crank etc you'll have to pay extra because they won't take your core. don't take your engine apart so you can maybe trade it in. it's a lot of work when things go right to r&r an engine.

the 350 HO is around $2200 and is 330 HP. Thats probably the cheapest you will find with that much HP. Also it has vortec heads.

Find a local engine builder that builds them in quantity. I live in a big city and there are a few different guys "mass" producing SBC's cheap. For $2200 you could get a really sick engine. But the engine swap is probably the easiest part of the the whole deal.
