A few questions...

Alright let me give a quik run down of my situation. I currently don't have a camaro anymore but am looking for another one. I just bought a 350 and i want to get another camaro to put it in.

My first question is I want to know if i got a good deal or not on the motor. What i know about it is.... It is a 350 block with 4 bolt mains, bored .060 over, has flat top pistons, holley 4bbl carb, edelbrock intake manifold and it is fully complete... the only thing it doesnt have is an air cleaner and it has normal exhaust manifolds. It also has less then 5,000 miles on it and I paid $600 for it. And it has a 90 day warranty.

Now my next question is are all the third gen f-body's computer controlled? And if so what kind of problems will i run into putting this motor in? Is it possible to just bypass all the computer stuff?

I'll be honest with you, I don't know much about those kind of things but i would really like to get another third gen and have this motor in it. The only other candidate for the motor would be my '78 monte carlo, but it has major body and frame damage so i don't want to do much more work to it.

Sorry for the length of the post but I just really want to get my project started. And need these kind of answers... thanks a lot for any help you can provide.

Dave

yes all 3rd gen fbodies are computer controlled and i know for a fact VA emmisions laws are as bad as NY's and you need to know somebody to get it inspected if you do this swap. that said i went from a 2.8 MPFI to a 305 out of an 86 bird and got rid of all the computer equipment. you have to get a distributer from a pre 80's sbc (vacuum advanced) or aftermarket controllers like MSD. if its a v-6 fbody you'll need a different trans. if its a 700 from a V-8 you can use it but you'll need to get a non lockup converter or get one of those lockup switches from B&M.

Well the motor already has a disrtibuter on it, so that is one less thing to worry about. Inspection is another hassle... i'm gonna have to start getting to know the people at the inspection station like you said

As for the tranny I have a TH-350 that i am gonna have rebult for this motor. But what can i do with the rear to beef it up a little or am i just better off buying a whole new posi rear axle?

Thanks for your help

you've only got about 325hp, the stock 10 bolt will hold up just fine. it will probably hold up to about 400 w/c-clip eliminaters, i've seen it done. mine came with a limited slip though, if yours is not i think you can geta limited slip and put it in your stock rear. it depends how your going to use the car if your just going to use it for street, stock gearing will be ok, but if your going to race it you will probably want to have 3.73's or higher put in and upgrade to an aftermarket posi and eliminaters.if you start running N2O alot you'll probably need to get a 12 bolt or one of those 9in made for f-bodies

one thing i forgot, i dont know if you checked it out yet but you have to get a conv. kit for the back of the TH350 to conv. it from the 700r4. i think summit has them. it providesa place for the arm that goes from the rear to the trans
