Can TPI feed a built 350??
Hey guys I was wondering since I plan to do a swap from my 305 to a 350 if the TPI would be able to feed the engine enough. I do know that bigger runners and whatnot would help but in general am I losing alot of power by not going carb?? The engine will have ported heads, a 'healthy' cam, and ported manifold+plenum combo with only stock runners. I would love to keep the TPI since I already have some things done to it on my current 305 (polished + ported). Plus I was wondering if my current computer and prom chip need to be changed out. I am thinking of getting the 350 chip from an 87 and up car and help here would also be appreciated. Thanks guys!!!

iroc22, where would I be able to get such a custom chip made for my particular application? Are there places that do this kind of thing? And also you are saying I should then pick a cam that would make all the power before 5500rpms correct? Thanks for your help!
You can learn how to burn your own custom chip from members on this site or you can probably get a custom chip from a local speedshop; all the ones around my house do it. Next Gen parts also has custom proms available.
If you want to run that TPI setup that you already have, I would go with a cam that doesn't have a RPM power range past 5500 rpm. The TPI runners and plenum (even though yours is ported) will not effectively be able to support enough air flow for power up there.

Keep in mind what your car is mostly used for. Daily driver, weekend warrior, once in a while? If you drive your car everyday, around town, on the highway, to get groceries, then I think you would be very happy with the TPI and a well tuned prom.
Ed Wright chips are alright but you should consider getting into tuning your own.

It depends on the engine and the cam as to if it can feed it or not. I'll save some time by saying that most of the time its going to eat some HP, unless its tuned absolutely right. In stock form, the TPI could hit peak HP at around 4800 or so, maybe more with a good chip in there. Thats about the limit though. You could siamese the base and raise the HP peak alot higher than that though, or get a different base and larger runners. All depends on what you want to do and how much you want to spend. A carb is certainly the simple way out.
