FI v6 --> carb. 305
I have an '86 firebird with a fuel injected v6 in need of replacing, i can get a carb. 305 and a 700r4 tranny in a swap for my truck, and i have gotten nowhere asking for help from local mechanics. the engine is out of an '85 K5 blazer. It's been rebuild and is in really nice shape, so what do i need to get from junkyards to make this thing work? computer, wiring, etc. any help would be appreciated

Welcome aboard.
You will certainly need the computer and wiring. However, I don't know if the Blazer parts will fit in a Firebird.
You will need a bunch of things that will not fit from the Blazer, like engine mounts, exhaust (headers, cat and cat-back would solve that problem - don't even consider using any of the V6 pieces), radiator. Also not sure about things like radiator fan, A/C (if that's an issue), power steering pump, and the like. Most likely the air cleaner will be too tall to fit under the hood. The Blazer TH700 will need modification to work in a car as well.
You will also need a fuel pressure reg to drop from fuel injected to carb pressure (good idea to keep the return line). The Blazer probably doesn't have an in-tank electric pump, so you may have to rig up a way to keep your current pump working with the rewiring you'll be doing for the engine. An alternative would be to drop the gas tank and remove the in-tank pump and just use the mechanical pump on the engine (still a good idea to keep the return line).
The best way to do the V6 to V8 swap is with a complete factory V8 donor car. You're only about 1/2 way there with a complete factory V8 donor Blazer.

Thanks for the info, as of right now i'm waiting for a friend to call me about a donor camaro. i may just get rid of the blazer engine and go for a 305 with TPI instead. If all else fails, i'll get another 2.8 (that is, if ALL else fails)

looks like i'm outta luck. i'm going to pull my 2.8 and see how bad it is. if it can be saved, i'll think about putting it back in...for now.
