88 L-98 into 84 Trans am(LG4) swap questions

This weekend I picked up an 88 Formula for $1000. The car is mint other than the fact that it was t-boned on the driver side. I got the estimate from the body shop today-no less than $3000. So, Ive decided that it makes the most sense to swap everything thats usable into my carbureted 84 TA.

What all is involved in swapping a TPI motor in place of a carbureted one? Im aware of the fuel pump issues, but other than that, Im kind of at a loss. Anyone whos done this, please hook me up with any helpful info you have on wiring etc. Thanks in advance

Just swap the TPI harness over too... it's entirely discrete and separate from the normal engine harness with the gauge wires and stuff like that. It's all contained in teh one large harness that goes into the pass side fender by the blower motor. Don't cut any wire at all, not one single one, it's not nececssary; just carefully remove them intact from their cars, put the FI one into the other car along with its ECM, and you're done.

The fuel pump wiring is a little different matter, it goes under the carpet and so forth. It might be easier to get an external electric pump, use the car's existing supply & return lines, and only use the last couple of feet of the FI lines.

What all is involved in running an external electric pump? I mentioned the idea on another board and a couple guys told me that it would probably run me $4-500. What pump would you reccomend? Would something like the Holley red pump work?

A Holley Red will not output enough pressure to work with TPI. You might look into an Accel fuel pump, both Summit and Year One sell it for around $140.

If understand correctly you have a complete L98 TPI car you want to swap from. IF so I had the same thing. When I repalced my 305 TBI with my L98 I found it eaiser to swap the whole dash and wiring harness. It only took a few hours to completly swap each dash I also just traded fuel tanks with the L98. I also ended up completely rewiring the car using the L98 harness even going from an auto to a T-5 was a snap. Not the way everyone would go I'm sure but she fired right up with 0 electrical problmes.
