Pontiac 350

Ok, i've recieved word that there is a steal of a deal on an old Pontiac with a 350, my question is, Is there a difference between Pontiac and Chevy 350's

i have a 91 RS with an L03 that is smoking some now and I'd like to get rid of it...
would this 350 possibly be right for me????

thanks for all the info..

yes there is a difference no its not worth trying to make a poncho 350 fit it at all.

that poncho 350 would be undesirable because the aftermarket is hard to find for pontiac motors and expensive if you do, you'll regret putting that motor into your car. and i do belive that the motor is wider then a 350.
pontiac dosn't have a small block, big block.. just a short deck, tall deck blocks.. 301 and smaller are short decks and 326 and bigger are tall decks.. or is it 326 and smaller are short decks and 350's and bigger are tall decks..
in any which case, your dealing with a motor that had different engine mounts (you'll need to fab some up) and that it has no compatibility with any chevy products (tpi, mini ram, supperram, lt1, stealth ram, etc).
you'd be better off getting a truck engine (around 90's) and changing the cam, maybe heads and intake.. be less of a headach then the poncho.

Same, but different. There werent any Pontiac V8's made after 1981 IIRC, and that was the lowly 301. Some people mistake V8 engines in thirdgen Firebirds to be Pontiac engines, but they are all Chevy's. Not sure when the Poncho 350 died, but it was sometime between 76 and 79.

well, i don't know what year this car is....
so if it is after say 1979 it should be a chevy 350????
so it may be possible to use this motor???
is this true?
cuz the car, I have been told, is in pretty good shape and runs good, just it belongs to some "socially deprived Southwest Virginians" who got pissed one night and decided to bust out all of the windows and now they want rid of it for a lowly 75 dollars... hahaha
how cool is that....

so, one more question, if I can aquire this car and say it is an old pontiac 350, is it likely that I could sell it for enough money to buy a decent chevy 350 for my car???

thanks for all the help
sorry i'm uninformed, but this is the only way to learn
thanks again

I know of no Pontiacs after about 79 that came with 350s of any sort... they had eother Chevy 305s or Olds 307s.

It's probably not what you need, any way you look at it. You can pick up junk 350 motors in the junkyard for not much more than that, and not have to deal with a whole junk car, and transporting it, etc.

you are right, you are all right and I am sooo thankful for the info cuz i probably would have just went and got the car not knowing....

but anywho, I have now found a guy that deals in s10's a lot and a lot of other trucks and he has some 350's sitting down there that are guaranteed to run for 30 days, that is a pretty good guarantee from where i'm sitting.... and he only wants 400 bucks for one of em.... so i think i'm gonna go that route and when I get my income tax check back i'll rip it back out of the car and rebuild it the way I want it...

sounds like a plan to me
thanks a bundle guys....
