305 to 350 Carb Will gauges work?
305 to 350 Carb Will gauges work?
I have a 91 Camaro RS with a 305 tbi. Recently it gives me more problems than pleasure. I want to swap a 350 with a carb and no emissions on it, but I am wondering if all of my gauges will work or if I need to get a different dash or something. PLEASE HELP.
yes
I did this same swap
everything works except the gas gauge(my fault, but it would work) and the oil pres. gauge
I cant for the life of me figure out how to do it
The problem is:
using the stock location on the block, behind the distributor, the stock oil sender is just to big.
you will have to go to a large cap HEI distributor, and there just isnt enough clearance for the large sending unit to clear it. Not to mention, if you are using an older block, which I am, that the hole where the sending unit scews into on the block is smaller. To remedy that, I used an adapter, which also had an angle, so i though I could angle the sender, but the elbow was to large, and the corners hit the intake, and wouldnt fit.
I gave up,and put in a mechanical gauge.

I'm not sure I understand what you said. The oil pressure gauge won't fit without a large cap HEI distributor?
Let me know how it works out for you! The previous owner of my TA had the original engine swapped from a 305 carbed to a 350 carbed and they cut alot of wires didnt look up alot of stuff. My oil and temp gage doesnt work so they hung a couple of aftermarkets under the dash would like to get the originals working. But my biggest problem is all emisions were left off so my gas tank builds to much pressure, no charcoal canister to vent the tank see my post in this section titled gas tank pressure. so far all of the advice i have got is what the canister does which i already knew not how to hook one up. So i am still working on that. bought another canister off someone w/all the hoses and valves so i am hoping to hook it up and see if it works.Leaving the gas cap loose is not an option. Good luck!
oil pressure sender
I used a threaded pipe (1/8" NPT I believe) about an inch or two long with a 45-degree elbow adapter and the sender cleared everything. If you can't get that to work, you can use the hole above the oil filter where the oil pressure switch would normally go. If you don't have a switch, try finding a 1/4" NPT male to 1/8" NPT female adapter to fit the sender there. If you are using a switch, see if you can tee it off.
