assuming you have an automatic, you NEED a new tranny

if you have a 5 speed, you can use it, but you shouldnt because of its poor strengh and for performance reasons also

Since the 700R4's only came with the 60* v6 or SBC V-8 bolt pattern, you will need to get a 2204_r trans to fit the 3.8 liter motor

not true, he won't have to get a new trans for that reason, I'm running a 700r4, TCI makes an adapter plate to allow a V8 700r4 to bolt to a BOP bolt pattern...

H would have to get the new trans due to it being a 60* V6 trans but if he wanted to he could stay with a 700r4

no, your 700r4 is for a 60* V6, you'll still have to swap trannies, swap to a regular V8 700r4...that's what i mean by saying you could stay with a 700r4...if you went with a 200-4r you'd have to swap crossmember, torque arm and the driveshaft..

The bellhousing for the 700-r4 will need to be changed. You can use your existing 700-r4.

even if that was true which its not(isn't the bellhousing part of the case on a 700r4?) why would u want to use a V6 700r4? Hell if even a stock V8 700r4 would be chewed up by a turbo 3.8 in no time....

as i understand it, the internals are primarily the same

maybe somebody else can back me up on this

just for the record, the 700R4 does NOT have a removeable bellhousing

only GM trans i can recall that have removable bellhousing are the newer 4L60E's

their not a conventioal bellhousing though, the bolts to remove it from the main trans body are access from inside (well, next to the front pump after you remove the TC)

I thought the V6 700 had a few less clutches in the 2-3 pack, I could be wrong but I thought I read that somewhere

I do know however, that like you said, the bellhousing is one piece..
