Opinion on this 350 ?!?!

I am looking at a new 350 for my 87 trans 5.0L. 305. Money is limited, so I am thinking of buying this basic 350, and building off it as I save up.

Here are the specs...

* 3 YEAR or 50,000 mile warranty in GM approved vehicles. Limited cam warranty on 265 HP engine.

not bad to start with, but your not gonna get the warenty with it. you have a 87, and that engine is made for 71-85 GM approved cars....your car is just a tad to young!...well if i were you, id look around more. go to some machine shops, look in the classified ads, go to www.chitownracing.com and look around in there classified ads. i got my newly built, bored over, forged piston, mild cam, head worked 350 4 bolt main for 800 bucks!!...but i also know people that know people. dont rush into it, shop around. hell you can go to the junk yard and get a good 350 4 bolt main from a truck($400)...take it to the machine shop have them clean it up, make sure its in good shape, then talk to the machine shop guy your budget and see what he can make you. im sure hes got some heads laying around he will give you cheap...or you can just get a decent 3 angle valve job, with all new seals, valves, and seats for around 500 bucks. you have alot of options.

It may be slow, but you can always BRAG "I got a 350 in it". Look
around, better engines are available.

what I was thinking was to buy this and then later turn it into a 383. I know that I would be replacing the crank and such, and that the rear main seal along with the pistons kinda suck, but those would be mods to replace as I save $.
