Another LS1 question, probably never asked though
Another LS1 question, probably never asked though
I was wondering if it would be possible to use a 90-92 gauge cluster with a swapped in LS1/4L60. The reason I ask is because the 4th gens are all electronic speedometers from what I've heard and it only seems reasonable and easier to retrofit the LS1 computer to a 90-92 Gauge cluster.
I may be wrong, but I thought ALL 90 and up f-bodies had an electronic speedo with a pickup on the tail housing of the transmission. only difference between 3rd and 4th gen is number of pulses that the computer reads. that can be changed fairly easily though.

I'm not entirely sure on this but i've heard that the LS1's use a sinusoidal speedometer system, so I think you'll need some gauges that match up with that.
well, they have a retrofit for 82-89 gauges with the 4L60E tranny which is almost always a must with an LS1, but I was just curious if the 90-92 would work because they are better looking in my opinion.

The 4L60E sends more pulses to the PCM than the 700R4. If you use the 4L60E there is no problem with calibration if you are using the late guage cluster.
