Smog legal Carbed 350

I live in California and was wondering if anybody knew if there was a way to swap a carbed engine into an 88 camaro and keep it smog legal? It has MPFI now, and I've heard that I have to keep it fuel injection to keep it legal. But I had a teacher that said that I could use any engine that came in a camaro for that year, and I thought there was a carbed 305 that was available for that model year. Would the smog technician be able to tell whether it was a carbed 350 vs. a 305? Thanks, Joe

There is no way.

Since no 88 or newer Camaros came with carbs, you cannot do it under California law.

Usually you can slide a 350 past them as a 305. But it's pretty hard to make a carb look like fuel injection. If you've ever actually had a car smogged in CA, then you know how closely they look at everything.

Yeah, the smog testing is a pain, although air pollution is pretty bad around here in the cities. But they are real **** about testing. They failed my car because the SES light didn't come on when you first started the car. The car passed the emissions portion fine, but they failed it cause it was missing a freakin light bulb!

Is that possible? That would be remarkably brilliant if so.
