starter motor for Z
Hey guys, newbie here. I am in the process of transforming my IROC into a beginner drag car. I currently have a 305 in it which is leaking and needs new oil seals in it and dont want to waste anymore money on it. Do you guys know of any resources out there or anybody selling a motor, with heads that I can start out with on my car? I basically need a cheap starter motor, preferably a 350 and up. I will need a motor that has compression below 12:1 (if what i just said made any sense, lol) so I dont have to swap out the pistons, so that I am able to put a blower on it and not have to go strictly on racing gas right now. I want something that will put me in the mid 12's high 11's without braking my bank account. If you have any ideas please let me know. I was currently checkin a small block 406 out, but i would have to swap the pistons out and one of the heads was trashed. I'm thinking that the rest of the motor is probobly not doing great either. So in reality spending a grand, was be ok, but then having to get a new set of heads and new piston set would set me back. please help.

Welcome aboard. You're going to find a lot of useful information here.
Now, the reality check: High-11's on a budget isn't going to happen. The safety equipment, chassis modification, driveline beef-ups, etc., are going to eat you alive. Without them, you either don't get the power to the pavement, or you don't race because you aren't safe.
Work you way up. If you can't afford to replace pistons, you can't afford 11's. That's reality. You may come across a deal on something like heads, for instance, but building a reliable race car on a grand budget is not what I'd call being in touch with reality.
Check the classifieds on this board and in your local papers. Talk to guys at speed shops, local racers, etc. Establish a network, and you'll get there. Just don't expect something for nothing.
