modified Northstar V8?
Hey everyone,
Another crazy idea. I was thinking about if gm would ever make a quad cam engine like the zr1'a lt5 again, I do know lotus made the engines, and well searching around I found the northstar. The New northstars are quad cam with variable value timing. It is a 4.6 litre engine with 315 factory horsepower. What would you thinking of modifing one and putting it in a camaro?
Thanks for your input.
:hail: :hail: :hail:
also, could you give me some info on the northstar block. What is different from the 350 block?
Thanks

That looks nice a 4th gen camaro 93-97. I was looking for pics of the engine too.

The angle at wich the cylenders are separated is 60 degres, opposed to 90 for a SBC. I'm not shure about the bellhousing bolt pattern, but I think it will accomodate a regular V6 tranny, IE for a 2.8, 3.8, etc...

Haha... that ZR1 motor looks alot like an injected HEMI
:hail:
Actually thought it was till i read the post, lol
Anyway.. on to something useful.... I'm pretty sure GM still sells the ZR1 motor as a crate engine, but its REALLY expensive... like $12,000 or something

The Jan '03 Hot Rod mag has a write-up about Caddy making a RWD version of the Northstar for '04 models on page 15. Pages 80-83 are an article on a 520 HP huffed Northstar in a rod.
Used S10 tranny with cut/welded bolt bosses.
Looks like big bucks, big fabrication headaches; for a high-reving, tweaky, but unique powerplant.

The 2.8 and 3.8 V6's use different bell housing patterns, so which one would fit the Northstar? Neither, I'd guess.

not 100% sure but i think its still 90 degrees just like the sbc's. The optimal angle for an engine with 8 cyl. is 90 degrees do to the number of cyl that fire per revolution.
edit: Here it is...
The Northstar V8 is a 90-degree, DOHC, four-valves-per-cylinder engine featuring an aluminum block and cylinder heads, and a valvetrain configuration with roller finger followers

i think the regular V8 4l60-e would work as well. Man... love those northstars. be cool to put one in an RX-7 or something.
