taking out v-6 putting in 350

ok well this will be my first motor swap. im tired of driving around this 2.8. i am going to be taking the 350 out of a 89 iroc. the iroc was wrecked really bad in the back. so the front of it is still in nice condition. i want to take all the stuff out of the iroc and put it in my 87 2.8. i need some ideas on some problems that im going to run into and what im going to to need to replace. the engine and the transmission is still good but the drive shaft and the rear arent going to do me anygood from the iroc. any ideas and some possible tricks would be very helpfull.

since you swaping everything from the iroc-z to your car you sohuld not have any problems..

and he's right your driveshft should work fine.

are you able to get to the rear end from the iroc you might be able to use the internals to have posi and a better gear set, unless you have that stuff already..

You should a very easy swap I think. The drive shaft and rear dont have to be changed, but if there is a posi in the iroc, i would change it over, but I think the 3.42 gears in the 2.8 will be a better performance ratio. You will just have to change the basic stuff, radiator, computer, etc. Good Luck!!

It is a time-consuming job.

One of the biggest hassles is moving the frame-mounted engine mounts to the proper position. You can't easily get to the nuts on the inside of the frame crossmember; the easiest way it to drop the a-arms, but since you'll probably have the engine out when you do this, you don't have weight to compress the front springs so you can't just jack the arm up, etc. However, since you should also change the front springs, using a spring compressor can allow you to drop the a-arms, change the mounts, and change the springs in one operation.

Basically anything that attaches to the engine has to be changed. That's the time-consuming part. The tachs are different, and depending upon what model you have, wiring harnesses can be different. If the IROC is TBI, the fuel pump in the tank will be different.

You need to change anything that's different between your car and the donor car. Sometimes those things are obvious, other times they aren't (for instance, I had to change the heater control switch because the '86 had an electric radiator fan and the '82 didn't, and there's a circuit to turn on the radiator fan whenever the AC is on that the '82 didn't have).
