HELP! - Nothing to screw my oil filter onto!

months ago I got a rebuilt 350 longblock, and I have been steadily collecting parts for my engine swap from a V6. I got the engine and tranny in yesterday. As I went to screw in the oil filter I got a nasty surprize - there was nothing in the hole to screw it to! I am told that there is supposed to be a short pipe that screws in there, but I have no idea what the thing is called, or where to even start looking for them. All my local parts slingers are morons, and have no idea what the hell I'm talking about. Could somone PLEASE let me know what that thing is, and where to get it? Even the GM part number? Anything!?! Thanks

Re: HELP! - Nothing to screw my oil filter onto!

Go to any GM dealer in town and ask them for an oil filter bypass and mounting screws. Just tell them you have a '89 IROC with a 350 engine. It helps if you look at the parts screen with the person behind the counter. It's been a while since I installed one but I think the bypass screen goes on the inside towards the engine block.

Another option is to call Sallee Chevrolet (www.sallee-chevrolet.com) and ask them for the same parts from a ZZ4 crate engine. They won't screw it up like a dealer could.

you could probably go to jegs or summit and by a bypass or relocator kit for it, unless the relocator reguires the mounting tube? Just an idea.

You can find them in some parts stores, or go to the junk yard and get one there.
