i'd like to know if the fastburn 385 heads will work with a 383 shortblock or any common L98 type 350 block. how would you know wether it will work right?
i'd like to build a nice 383 shortblock 4bolt main using the fastburn heads, a nice healthy cam, 1.6rr's and a miniram intake.
i'm thinking i can do this for under 7,500 and make 400/400 at the wheels easily while maintaining a good reliable street setup and managing at least low 12 sec. slips on sundays.
what do you think?

They'll work on any block other than the LT1, and the LS1. It's got something to do with the "1" on the end.
The only other block I could see problems with would be the 409, and the 348 (not the LS1).
Good luck.

if im not mistaken....the fast burn heads use the vortec bolt pattern...meaning if youre gonna use tpi you'll need the scoggin dickey (expensive) TPI base...if youre going carb...its no big deal....but youll need to get a vortec style carb manifold. As far as bolting up to the block...thats not a problem as long as the block is a gen 1 block.

ooops i didnt read that you were gonna use the miniram intake.....make sure you get the vortec version (miniram III for fastburn heads)
A SBC is a SBC is a SBC. They never changed the head bolt pattern, so they will bolt up to any block (valve clearance issues on small 305 and 283 and such bores aside). As mentioned, the intake is the only change they made, some are pre-87 pattern, some are post-87 pattern, some are Vortec/Fastburn pattern.

I heard from Chevy Hi-Performance that they can accept Vortec Intakes and Non-Vortec intakes.Originally posted by mult68

A non vortec intake will not cover the raised intake ports on the Fastburn heads. Been there tried that.
