LT1 the way to go?
Im looking to throw a 350 engine into my 92firebird(V6), the engine im looking for is something that has decent power but dosent have to be a monster, the biggest thing for me is to do this for a modest price. Is the LT1 the way to go or is there something better out there.
thanks
Craig
Any help would be great.

Depends on what you want out of the car. If you just want a repectable 350 without too much hassle, then an LT1 is not the way to go. There are much simpler and easier ways out there. The easiest way I can think of is a crate 350. I cant speak for anyone else, but the reason I went with the LT1 was its already at 275 hp, I didnt want to go to TPI due to its inherent breathing problems, and I knew I would be modding it at a later date. Like I said, it really just depends on what your plans for the car are. Since you said you want decent power but it doesnt have to be a monster, the easiest thing I can think of would be a mild carbed 350. If you want computer control, you can find a 350 TPI out of many f-bodies and do just a few mods to it and get some very decent power out of it.
I'll tell you that the LT1 swap is not the easiest swap to do, but it is by far not the hardest either. you just have to go into it with the mindset that you know it may get difficult, but you are ready for any complications you might run into and it will be well worth it when it is running.

If you want a swap thats fairly easy to do, find an engine that was once in a '70s Camaro or Corvette. My 350 came out of a '79 Camaro Z28 and it litterally dropped in place of the 305, except for a few minor things. Yea, the stock '79 motor is weak, but the 350 aftermarket is HUGE and its very easy and fairly cheap to get about 300hp out of it.
