V6 2 V8 Swap ? about V6 5 speed

Yesterday I bought a 1989 Camaro RS, V6, 5 speed. Black with Black interior. The car is so clean I couldn't pass it up. Well the v6 has little to no oil pressure. Which doesn't really matter because I want to drop in a 350 anyway. My question is can I use the 5 speed tranny and flywheel from the V6 or will I need to change these over for a V8 5 speed tranny and flywheel??? Thanks

Welcome to the boards!

you can use the V6 tranny, although i wouldnt recommend it. THe V6 T-5 tranny is weaker then the V8 T-5 tranny.

Yup, he's right. The T5 transmissions are notoriously weak. And the T5 from your V6 would be done like dinner in no time behind that 350 with any kind of "spirited" driving.

If you buy a used (salvage) motor you can usually get the trans with it for just a few hundred dollars more then the engine alone.

Welcome aboard, by the way.

The engine is the least of what you need to do a V6 to V8 swap. As mentioned above, the tranny should be from a V8 car as well. In fact, there are so many parts required that it makes more sense to get a donor car (rolled or rear-ended) with the engine and transmission you want. This is true even if the engine from the donor car isn't what you put in your driver.

What makes even more sense from a dollars standpoint is to buy a car with the engine and transmission you want already in it from the factory.
