$600 Oval Merlin or $30 bare 781's
Thats $600 for Merlin oval port heads are neer been ported,has the valves but no springs and retainers..the $50 781 heads is bare ..nothing with it and one of the heads have been ported..
Whats the better deal?

WTF? One head being ported?
Personally I would take the set that had less wrong with them. My heads are costing me $450 to be rebuilt with new valves and springs along with some other work so be prepared for the expense of whatever you decide

Merlins have hardened seats for unleaded fuel use. Most 781s do not; meaning that they will not last with unleaded fuel. the merlins are excellent pieces (i have a set on my 454) but also be careful as the raised exhaust ports will not fit all headers. 049s are a better OEM head that can be had for about the same $$.
