I don't know :(

instead of a 350.. maybe I should stick with the 305? I'm sure that V8 can be quiet performant as well... can a 305 make about 350 to 400 hp? can it be done easily? or can it be reliable at that much power? my 305 doesn't even 150 000 km on it... so many choices...

I assume you intended to hit "Reply" on your previous thread and hit "Post" instead.

Streetable 400 HP 305's are a myth. Double the effectiveness of that statement if you have emissions test/inspection concerns.

On Desktop Dyno, my combo says 360 HP - that's flywheel gross, not the net values used in current advertising. If you believe 1/4 MPH to rear wheel HP conversion formulas (with an elevation conversion thrown in for good measure), I'm putting 250 HP to the rear wheels. That's in an emissions-legal (although not yet inspected/tested), daily-driven package. It idles at 500 in D, revs to 6k easily, gets 18 MPG when I can resist the temptation to put my foot in it (which is rare through a complete tank). I think that's a pretty respectable package. But, a 355 (.030"-over rebuilt 350) would put out approx. 40 more rear-wheel HP, and a 383 ~65 more.

If you want 400 streetable HP out of a 305, build it up stout but conservative and then spray it. Makes more sense to build a 350 for spray.

Oh, I did the mods in the sig 14 months ago, when the engine had 143,600 miles on it. It turned over 153,600 miles last night.

yeah.. sorry to have created a new threat... ok, fortunatly I am somewhere where legal emission is a myth . So you say I could turn around about 360 hp with a 305? That's pretty nice I'd say... how much did it cost you, approximatively? And what ratio is your differential? Would like to go in the low 14's or even high 13's... doable you think? thanks for your help

You can make power with a 305 but it costs a lot of money.

The rear ratio is 2.93, like the sig says.

I started collecting the parts for the mods almost 2 years ago, so prices might be higher now (I'm sure most of them are).

Heads - $650 from Competition Products (upgraded valves, springs, and seals)
Porting kit - $35 from same
Intake manifold - $75 (crate take-off from buddy)
Oil pan, windage tray and pump - $40 (from same buddy)
Gaskets - ~$100 total (steel shim head, one-piece pan, intake, valve cover, etc.)
Cam, lifters, timing set - $170 from Summit
Headers - $330 (10% discount Summit had at the time)
Cat-back - $140 from JC Whitney
Muffler - $70 from Summit
Coil and module - $150 from local speed shops
Dual-snorkel air cleaner - ~$150 from classifieds and Next Gen

With gears and traction (and a tranny that shifts from 2-3 at WOT), I'm sure I'd be low-14's, possibly high 13's at sea level. As-is, it's faster than the '57 was when it had a 350 in it.

sounds nice... and you say you can do 18 mpg with it when you don't floor it? whoa, that's rather impressive, since with my stock 305 I make around 14 or 15 mpg.. agreed my edelbrock might need a better adjustement and my block needs tune-up prob as well... for an engine that makes 360 hp like yous, that's rather gas saving.. thanks for your help man... I'll look into 350 anyways but I'm not too hot at the idea of an engine swap in my back yard

Ok, so I'm done about the 305... the 350 now. At first I really thought a 350 was out of the question cause I want to keep the engine carburated, yet as I saw how my edelbrock fitted with my stock intake under the hood, I really thought a 350 with a nice intake and a nice carb would never fit under there. Now I see ppl doing it with the stock hood, which I'm probably gonna keep. so still on a 4k budget what should I get for a 350 block and please let me know with those mods on that kind of engine if I'd need a new tranny and differantial... plus if you guys had some pics of your t/a or camaro with a carb 350 and a stock hood, I would love to see them... thanks guys, I appreciate you helping me thru that.. just don't want to waste a whole bunch of money on a single thought
