OK i need some help....I have a 91 camaro with a 305tbi engine... my friend has an 84 vette with a cross fire engine...he totaled the car...and i want to put the 350 in my car..im not sure but i think its an 86 block..could be the 84 but i know that it has 86 heads.....is it possible to swap just the engines and leave my tbi set up for now(what will I need)...can i use the injectors off of his cross fire engine as well..and any other parts i might need..and whats the biggest cam i can put in it. If someone can help me out on how to do this..it will be much appreciated. thanks

Well, I'll dive right in, but I'm no expert. The bolt pattern on your manifold is different from the '84...the four center bolts on yours are at 72 degrees instead of 90 so it appears they bolt straight down into the head instead of at an angle. If you put the manifold in a clamp or vise and take your time, you may be able to drill the bolt holes on the manifold out to accept the bolt at 90 degrees. That would be some work, but your own labor is free compared with buying special parts. You could then use your TBI manifold and throttle body. If the injectors swap out, use the one's from the donor car. Otherwise, you can probably boost the pressure on the one's you have enough for most daily driving situations then start scouring the junkyards and swap meets for the right 350 injectors. This site has several articles in the tech section on playing with TBI fuel pressure. It's really easy to do, but be careful you don't go too far and destroy your fuel economy and power.
As for camshafts, are you rebuilding the engine? How many miles are on it? Once you put in a bigger cam, old parts like valve stem seals and worn piston rings start wearing faster and you'll end up with a smoke bomb on wheels. Remember, the '84 still has a flat-tappet hydraulic cam not a roller cam like your '91. On the other hand, you may be able to put in a roller cam like an LT-1 cam and then swap all the other hardware (including the lifters and push rods) off your 305. Otherwise, find a nice hydraulic cam in the Summit catalog with a duration around 212/222 degrees and a lift in the neighborhood of .450". Another thought is to just buy some 1.6:1 rocker arms and swap those on. That'll give you a bigger cam with a lot less hassle.
Sounds like a fun project. Good luck.
