Hi

were they for a 4th gen? or a 3rd gen? what manufacturer were they? and what y-pipe did you use. if you know the part numbers that would be great to

i got a 96 lt1 and 4l60e from a trans am.
im thinking about makeing a website with pics on my swap.

I used Heaman's shorties, worked without any problems, going for full length soon.

I went for the SLP 1.75" with y-pipe and dual cats. I could have saved myself alot of trouble by going with a single 3" cat. I bought the Spohn connectors to ease the pain a little.
I am trying to retain the air pump and egr so I will be doing a little creative plumbing for the egr and I will have to tig weld an extra bung for the second O2 sensor. I hope to have pictures up at some point in the next month.

I plan to weld some sort of bung to the header that will mate up with the egr tube.
I am using SLP's 1 3/4" thirdgen headers with air tubes.
I just ordered my harness and computer to convert over to 95 with MAF and emmissions. My harness is coming from www.howell-efi.com ($550+$200 for the computer). Not cheap but they always answer the phone and the harness is long enough I can route the ecm into the passenger compartment and its a brand new harness.

I've got the Hedman's as well, and while I have had no problems with leaks at the head, I've gone through absolute hell trying to keep the collectors sealed. The Hedman's have just a very narro flat flange on the y-pipe side that is supposed to seal to the slightly wider but still narrow flange on the collector. The seal sucks. I've pretty much given up on trying to keep them sealed besides the fact that I want to go to a larger primary header sometime in the near future anyway, so I'm not really worried about it anymore. I would suggest going with something a little better. It will cost more, but I doubt you will have any of the headaches I've had. For what its worth, I'll probably get SLP's in the near future, or just break down and get longtubes. Haven't decided yet.

Thanks for the info, last wkend i got the motor and trans in the car, i got a painless harness for it. so far it hasnt been to bad yet. i got all the original wiring from the donor car, but thought it would be easier with the painless. im using the 4l60e trans. anyone using it or did you stick with the 700r4. im going to have to get a kit for the vss to speedo cable though. i got a ecm from a 95 so i wont have to worry about OBDII.

Uh, I think the 93 LT1 was the only year that was OBDI. I think all the others from 94 and up were OBDII

Camaro18, you are really moving on this swap. Congrats. You have the same delema as I do in that you have to pass Illinois emmisions and I have read quite a few posts that say the SLP headers are the way to go. Good luck.

Ironically I moved from IL about a two years ago. I thought emissions would be easier in Virginia, but its really a pain out here. At least the weather is warmer.

I recieved my harness and 95 ecm from Howell today. I am really impressed with how clean the harness looks. It looks like I will really be able to clean up the engine compartment.
I think I am going research and see if there is a thread about doing an emissions legal swap, if there is not one, I am going to start one and put my lessons learned at this point into it.

i only get to really work on it on the wkends. i work 2nd shift im not to concerned about the epa laws. i live about 75 miles from chicago and we dont have test, but i do want to make the car as legal as possible. im going to keep pretty much everything but the air pump. hopefully on sunday i get the harness in with some help from my dad and all the under dash wiring hooked up. im thinking about the slp or maybe edelbrock headers.

You are right about the opti, but OBDI ended in 93. OBD2 started in 94 on these cars and I believe in 95 or so on all cars. Also, 93 was speed density and 94-97 was mass air. I always thought that that it would be better to get a mass air LT1 but I have been doing some reading on camaroz28.com and a lot of people seem to think that the speed density tend to make more power for the mods. You have to have a chip made or program your own definately if you have speed density though.

HI
dont want to start a big fight here, but OBDI is 93-95 and OBD2 was 96 on up. when you buy software to burn your ecm like LT1_EdIT the 94-95 software is OBDI and 96 on up is OBD2
here is a site that will tell you carputing.com

the motor im using is from a 96 Trans am and it has both MAF and MAP. from what i have read it uses the maf. and the map is a back up if something should happen to the MAF.

Ok, I just looked at www.pcmforless.com and you guys are right. I guess the difference I was thinking of is that 93 uses chips that need reprogrammed and are only speed density, while the 94-95 are still obdI but you actually reprogram the pcm like you would an obdII car. I was thinking that when they got rid of the proms and went to maf that they also went to obdII. I think that 93 is the only year lt1 that you can flash the trouble codes with a paper clip in the aldl port though.

Headers

I don't know if you're still looking for headers but i used hooker super comp on my lt1 in my 91RS and they fit perfecty, I just have to make my own y-pipe which I am still in the process of doing.
