Out of pure curiosity...
Would a Tremec T45 5-speed tranny fit into a 3rdgen? These are the 5 speeds you will find in a newer model Mustang GT (possibly V6 too?) and probably other cars as well.
Would on of these work on a sbc, or would it be a lost-cause to attempt this?

The input shaft is a different length as well as the number of splines if I'm not mistaken. And if you plan to put some cubes behind it(ala 350) You will grenade it eventually.

Really? I've never heard of any Mustangs (GTs, Cobras, etc) ever having any of the same kinda problems the T5 cars had, like our cars.
But this was just outta curiosity, wasn't gonna try this.
One more question... what 5 speeds did the 4th gen 6cyl cars have? T5s?

YES! Again they are different from the 3rd gen t-5's. The 4th gen T5's actually have the Ford input shaft and a different bellhousing for the 3800 V6 if it's a newer model.
